Symptoms
- Watery eyes
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
- General feeling of illness
Characteristics
- Time from exposure to illness is 12 hours to three days
- Spread directly through droplets from coughing, sneezing, or speaking
- Spread indirectly through articles soiled by discharges of infected person
School Action and Communicability Comments
- Your child should remain at home for the first one to two days of the cold, or longer if symptoms are severe.
- Common colds are communicable for 24 hours before and five days after nasal discharge.
- Do not give aspirin to a child with a common cold.
